How do I Make my Social Media Accounts Look Professional?

Social media is a very image-focused industry. People can make snap decisions about your business based on your posts, bio, and profile picture. Lets dissect each of these.

Profile Picture

Your profile picture is what is going to be shown next to every comment you leave, every picture you post, and any time you are in someone’s DMs. Most businesses want this to be their logo. But often businesses don’t take the time to consider what will be legible at a variety of sizes.

Most often, your profile picture is going to be about the size of a pencil eraser. So if your logo has text, or is a pretty complex image, it’s not going to be very legible at a small size. If this is the case, it’s better to use an initial, a submark, or even a color or pattern.

Here are some of the places your profile picture can appear, just on Instagram. All the pink dots would be a profile picture.

Bio

Your Bio is a short little paragraph where you can explain what you do, where you are located, etc. These Bios are important because social platforms use this information to help people find your content. If you are interested in Web design, and view a lot of web design related posts, a social platform will seek out other accounts with web design content to show you. You want your Bio to capture the attention of your reader, and be informative. Fill out as many of the forms your social platform offers, so that you don’t need to store information like the days you are open, or your address in your bio.

Here’s an example of our Optimized Bio:

Posts

Your posts are one of the more difficult to make look professional, because they need to look consistent and they need to reflect your brand. When someone looks through your profile, you want them to see engaging content that provides value. And when they see your posts in their feed, you want your posts to stand out as being a part of your brand.

Select a set of brand colors that work nicely together. Decide on one or two fonts that you feel reflect the vibe and aesthetic of your brand. If you post a lot of pictures, try to decide on a general lighting style and color palette that fits your brand. All these choices will help your page look cohesive, professional, and help each post sand on its own as a part of your brand.
