Why Every Business Needs a Website: A Lesson from Live Radio

Patrice has 20+ years of experience in business development, marketing, project management, and driving sales.

This blog post was inspired by something that happened during my other job this morning. In addition to owning ProFusion Web Solutions, I’m also a morning show host on KAFE 104.1. Juggling both roles is a bit crazy, but it allows me to meet an incredible variety of people and keeps my life very full.

This morning on the show, we were chatting with a caller about one of our topics. As we wrapped up, he asked, "Hey, mind if I give my business a free plug?" Of course, we obliged. He shared his company name, and when we asked where people could learn more, he hesitated before vaguely suggesting, "Just look us up on Facebook."

Curious, I searched for his business live on-air while we were still on the phone. What I found? Five other businesses with similar names, plus a sea of potential competitors. The caller was leaving it entirely up to me—the potential customer—to do the hard work of tracking down his business. The reality? Most people won’t go that far. If finding you isn’t quick and easy, they’ll move on to the next best option—or worse, they won’t find anyone at all.

The Better Solution? Get a Website!

Instead of directing potential customers to Facebook, where distractions are endless and competitors are just a click away, why not give them a direct path to your business with your own website? Here’s why having a website is crucial:

  1. 1
You Control Your Online Presence – Unlike social media platforms, where algorithms dictate visibility and policies can change overnight, your website is fully under your control.
  2. 2
Easy and Direct Access – A website ensures people can find you quickly and get the information they need without sifting through multiple search results.
  3. 3
Protection Against Social Media Outages – If (or when) Facebook crashes or limits your access to your own audience, your website remains a reliable touchpoint.
  4. 4
Professionalism & Credibility – A business with a well-designed website appears more established and trustworthy compared to one relying solely on social media.
  5. 5
Marketing Powerhouse – A website paired with email marketing is the golden goose of digital marketing. You’re not just capturing attention—you’re building relationships.

Need more info? Consider these stats:

Online Search for Local Businesses:

  • In 2022, 98% of consumers used the internet to find information about local businesses, up from 90% in 2019.
  • 80% of US consumers search online for local businesses at least once a week, and about one-third (32%) search every day or multiple times a day.
  • 76% of consumers search for a company's online presence before visiting a physical location.
  • 45% of consumers are likely to visit a company in-person after finding them through a local search.

Small Business Website Ownership:

  • Nearly three-quarters (73%) of small businesses in the U.S. have a website.
  • This means that more than one in four (27%) small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the U.S. don't have their own site.

Reasons for Lack of Online Presence:

  • Almost 3 in 10 small business owners think that setting up a website is just too expensive (let's talk about this! A website should make you money! Schedule a call to learn more)
  • 35% of small businesses without a website feel they're just too small to need one (as evidenced by my call on air, this is simply not true! If you have a business you need a website. Full stop.)

Time to Step Up Your Game

If you own or operate a business and don’t have a website, it’s time to change that. Make sure people can find you online with a domain name that reflects your business and an informative, engaging website that tells them exactly how to work with you. Don't leave it up to chance—take control of your online presence today!
